The School Council directly influences the quality of education that a school provides to its students by working with staff to set key directions and policy for the school, overseeing the maintenance of the buildings and grounds, coordinating fundraising activities and approving and monitoring the school’s cash budget.
Carlton North Primary School Council has up to 15 members:
- 6 Parent Members
- 4 DET (staff) Members
- 4 Community Members
- Executive Officer the Principal.
School council members are elected (or co-opted in the case of community members) for approximately a two-year term. Half the membership is elected or co-opted each year creating vacancies for the annual school council election. All members of the CNPS school community are eligible to nominate. Once elected, all council members are encouraged to abide by the CNPS School Council Standing Orders. No one member represents a sectional interest and all decisions are made in the best interests of the students.
The CNPS School Council meets twice per term, generally on a Wednesday at 6.30pm.
Our school council has several sub-committees:
- Finance
- Education
- Buildings, Grounds and Sustainability
- Communication
- Community Engagement and Fundraising
Parents can always join any of our sub-committees without being a member of school council. We always welcome new people and ideas.
Please contact the Principal for further information.
